It's all about the Benjamins baby.
Unfortunately, a culture of I play to get paid and I'll walk on anybody who gets in my way has taken shape in the NBA. Jordan seemed to be the last one that I can think of that played for pride and not $$. Teamwork is the reason the USA keeps losing in basketball in the Olympics and other world events. American ballers play for themselves only.
Ahh, the days of Larry Legend and Kareem. . . . . .may they come back one day.

To say that alot of NBA players don't have much regard for their sport or the league is, at best, ludicrous. Many of these NBA players are from lower class backgrounds. These players have spent countless hours perfecting and worshipping the game of basketball since they were big enough to dribble a ball. They must spend even MORE hours if they intend to be considered one of the best in the league. These players didn't just get jabbed in the back of the head like the Matrix and in two minutes can play like All-stars. These players spent hours while most of the world was sleeping, playing the game. To disregard their effort, regardless of whether or not you may not like their personality, is wholly judgmental.
In regards to the comments about them being crybabies and David Stern is "cleaning up" the League, these comments are as well, unfounded. Yelling at the referee and brawls between players was worse and more commonplace in the so called "golden eras" of basketball. Larry Bird was notorious for giving the refs a piece of his mind if a call didn't go his way. The difference is nowadays players are making exorbitant amounts of money.
If these players didn't have respect for the sport then they wouldn't be in the NBA in the first place, and if they didn't have respect for the league, then, well, is ANYBODY wearing jerseys on the game bus anymore?

It's not just you. Basketball is my favorite sport (I love the way they dribble up and down the court...), but the majority of NBA players seem like overpaid babies with chips on their shoulder. I love the new rules, cutdown on yelling at refs and a new dress code. David Stern knows that the NBA is an international game and wants to clean it up

It's not just NBA players, I think it extends to a lot of professional sports as well.

They are self serving athletes, but then so are most of the other athletes in other sports. The NBA is trying to lose its "Thug" reputation, so it has to crack down harder on violators and create stricter rules.

i think its all about the dollars. i think back in the day the game was played for the love of it and with great passion. now a days you see grown men crying and whining about contracts(example: latrell sprewell who gets 14 mill and still cant feed his family?) and how they want to be traded cause theyre not winning(example: allen iverson).
