The school keeps telling me that he is smart but he does not write well, ( Because he does not write well he will shut down and not work if he thinks that the job is too much writing) I have asked them if they think he is dyslexic and all they will tell me is that it is not their place to diagnose this. I have asked them who do I take him to to see??? I don't get good answers. I have no money and Insurance does not cover "Mental stuff"

I have an IEP. I have asked for the test. The problem is that they say he does not qualify. I have asked for the shool pyscologist to see him and again they asy he does not qualify. They say he knows the material and that he is just being lazy but he really has a hard time putting his thoughts on paper. He writes like a 1 grader and he is in 5th grade. We have been doing this "dance" with the teachers for a while

The school should do the testing. Usually done by teachers, and psychologist. It's free to you, and you have to sign papers for permission. The results would be discussed with you at a TEAM meeting. The psychoeducational evaluation can usually confirm the posibility of any learning disabilites shown in an educational test. It's the schools responsability to do this, don't be shy, contact your local school department and request a meeting. If he is dyslexic and IEP would be put in place. If they don't follow these they may be violating a child's civil rights.

They can't decide that, you ask them for a review. Either a 2 year or a 4 yr, where testing has to be done. If they don't comply call the state (dept of ed) ask for a mediator, I used to work in the SPED department, and usually this would get them running. I don't see how they can say that he doesnt qualify, unless there has been recent testing that already showed he did not have dyslexia. If he is having trouble writing things down, this can also had something to do with motor skills (usually seen in younger children) while you're at it if really necessary ask them for an OT testing as well. Did he have speech testing done?
Why the OT, some children have trouble with completing work because they may feel pain, or tiredness in their hands and things like that because of underdeveloped motor skills.

How about a Speech Therapist. Maybe you could find a clinic that would be able to refer to to one. Or possibly, a pediatrician could refer your child for a screening. Many school districts provide speech therapy if there is a problem. My son started seeing one through the school district- free of cost- at the age of three.

they will have to fill out some info. & have him tested via
the child study team, once he gets tested they will set up
a meeting w/ you ( they have up to 90 days to get this done) it might not be dyslexia he may have LOW MUSCLE tone.
