Well, you could stop the smoke from escaping.... Those who chose Bernoulli correctly, need a source of air after the initial pressure equalization. If the recirc button is on, and the other vents on the car are clogged with crud (a hypothetical), It will take a while for turbulent diffusion mechanisms to remove much of the smoke. The air must enter and leave through the crack. Now, most cars have cabin vents of some sort, usually in the rear. So if they aren't clogged with fuzz (or dog hair) the air will enter from the rear and exit through the drivers window as the velocity of the flow at each opening is different. Like when the rear window breaks in your '79 Jeep Wagoneer, and you get carbon monoxide poisoning...

The action of the motor vehicle is arising a rigidity imbalance with the exterior air. Like air transferring over an plane wing, the air transferring around the motor vehicle has a lot less rigidity than the air contained in the motor vehicle, so a vacuum is created once you open a window, drawing the air out. ultimately the rigidity drop contained in the motor vehicle will reason your ears to pop, till you open a vent to allow sparkling air into the motor vehicle.

good question, although to the naked eye it doesnt make sense, the driver window is the only exit where air is being sucked out.
