I' ve been making a paste using water, honey and baking soda and have been using it everyday in the shower for the past one week... So far there has been no adverse effects... my skin has in fact become more soft and smooth... but i am not sure about using it in the long run... I prefer making my own bath products... Hence, if baking soda is too harsh to be used in the long run, can someone pls suggest an alternative...

Baking soda is the equivalent of using a scrub or a mask. You should use it every other day, and use a cleanser designed for your face every day. Keep in mind, since you're useing all-natural products on your face, only make enough ahead of time to last a week at the most.

it's no more abrasive to the skin as some of the o.t.c. soaps. all that detergent is drying to the skin and takes away natural oils and moisturizers in the skin.
as long as it gets rid of the dirt you are on the right path.
good for you!
