they call it an " invasion" when everyone's ancestors "invaded" here at some point legally or not. Mexicans are coming here for the same reasons your ancestors did. I'm native american and hold no grudges for what happened in the past, but the hypocrisy is something else. what goes around comes around I guess.

There are ignorant fools who believe that all Mexicans are illegal aliens and that they are somehow "better" than all of you. It is the same system Hitler used to enforce Naziism. Have the people hate one group (in this case Mexicans) and get to a point where they are apathetic to their plight. Then, get rid of 'em. It's sick, and you're right.

Most illegal "aliens" work jobs most Americans wouldn't and at far less than the poverty rate.

I hate the term "alien" because that is just what it does to most people...alienates them because they are somehow "different". Words can inspire outrage and anger and outrage and anger causes wars. If you lived in a country where your children were ill and had a high mortality rate wouldn't you go wherever you could to make it better for them? You can say "Don't have kids", but nothing is that easy and surely nothing is that black & white. It is also a huge insult to the spirit of a woman.

The stance against immigrants, especially Mexicans, has reached an uproar in this country. The same happened in Nazi Germany. I know that sounds farfetched but studying history, I don't believe it is. I see friends of mine overcome with hate when "illegal aliens" are mentioned. What a double negative, huh?! I agree that the laws need to change (i.e. if someone is convicted of a dangerous felony, it will ruin their chances to enter this country). The laws don't work like that, though. I hope we find good people who will elect to change the extreme wait on Visas for immigrants so that they don't have to be illegal. With a 15 year or more wait to be an American (not including by marriage) it is no surprise that people come through illegally. We haven't got a right to close America to anybody.

I truly am sorry you have to suffer through this.

If the ppl who scream about them being here legally only knew how hard it is to get papers to be here, they'd be screaming a different tune. It isn't like you can just walk up to the Immigration front door and say "Hey Dude, gimme my papers" and they hand them over to you. It is one of the hardest things to do. Do you really think that if it were easier to do that these ppl wouldn't do it? Of course they would. They don't WANT to be here illegally, they have no choice, or not much of one anyway.

Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes.

I know all about this because I have dealt with it for the past 5 yrs now with my bf. He is a HARD worker and would work most Americans under the table but he has had a hard time getting any kind of paperwork.

I will fight for him tooth and nail but I am sick of uninformed, IGNORANT ppl who make comments without knowing the full truth.

*steps down off of soapbox*

Thanks! LOL

I think most people want legal immigration as opposed to illegal immigration. That is what is the concern of most people. Times have changed since the big waves of immigration to this country and so have the laws. I think most rational, thoughtful people welcome anyone to this country who immigrates with the right intentions to be law-abiding, learn the language, work hard and be a productive member of the society. I think most people have issues with people who want to immigrate to this country and have a feeling of "entitlement". This nation needs hard-working citizens, from all countries, who are willing and able to assimilate and be a part of America. Many people feel that some Mexicans only want to come here for economic advancement. While that may be one reason to want to live in America, there needs to be more of a commitment to being part of the society and culture. Teaching their children English and wanting to be educated is an important part.

I think the biggest issue is just sheer volume. When people immigrate legally, it is easier to deal with public needs, as in housing, roads, schools, hospitals. When people come in illegally, it makes it nearly impossible to realistically plan for these things.

I can not blame Mexicans for wanting to come here. To really make a difference, more pressure needs to be put on all of the corporations who have factories along the border so they can get cheap labor. I do think that Mexicans need to work to make their own country better.

Until then, I am brushing up on my Spanish.

It's an English class thing.
Each culture group has had to take
their turn at being last in line. Just read a history book
and you can see it plainly. Don't worry too much about the Mexicans, it's the Iranians and the Iraqies turn now.
Maybe we should worry more about how the government
is running the country into the ground. It effects all of us....

By the time my ancestors made it to America - they acclimated themselves to the American culture, language and laws. They didn't get a free ride and in fact were shunned and frowned upon even for being here too, but at least they tried to be a part of the society.

I just get tired of having to look at my son and wonder how I can afford his medical insurance when illegals (and not just mexicans) can walk into an ER for a common cold and not pay a dime.

I love all of the mexicans I have ever personally met (which is a lot because I worked in a mexican restaurant for years). What I don't like is people who are here illegally protesting in the streets asking for more rights. Any other person who does something criminal goes to jail. They do not get MORE rights. So why should these people who just by being here are active in criminal activity get more rights??? Not to metion the epidemic of stolen identities illegal immigration is causing. I know that if you want to immigrate anywhere in the world there are steps that need to be taken and millions of people have taken them. Why is America suddenly seen as mean spirited for wanting to control immigration like the rest of the world???? And yes my family did immigrate here. 4 generations ago. Legally. Despite being poor and not knowing the language. Overcome adversity don't wallow in it!!!

Because no other culture proclaims in demonstrations and marches that they are going to "Take Over" America. Because no other culture has the damn nerve to demand services from America and have the arrogance to say that we NEED THEM. Last time I checked, America was built and formed off the backs of whites, blacks, asians, latinos, and a handfull of others. Not saying that we do not want mexicans here. We just dont need the whole poor damn country flooding up here like it is. Especially in my case and experience, the racist muthafcks can stay in mexico as far as I'm concerned. I dont care to live in mexico and that is what this place will be soon.

This sounds like in Britain, especially in London, loads of people are racist or hypocritical to asian immigrants and where i live, there are lots of eastern european and portuguese immigrants.
I don't see what the problem is really, does it really matter where people come from? its probably because people are jealous that they come and take jobs leaving people with no qualifications, no income.

Trust me...if Mexico were Norway NO ONE would complain. They hate your brown skin and poor economy and HATE when you actually take advantage of the opportunities and prosper.

NO, I don't like Illegals (different world than 1912), but the HATRED and RACISM is bugging the hell out of me. You can deport them without debasing them AND NO, just because my name is Juan Carlos does not me I am ILLEGAL or from outside AMERICA!!!!

I love those who say they need to learn ENGLISH....WHY...its not the official language of the USA, no language is official therefore all languages are valid.
