I'm looking at getting a 5-6 year old bike in the $2000 range. I'm a big fan of honda with quads, but don't know much about 2 strokes. Are there any bad ones to watch out for? How are yamahas?

Depends on what your using it for. If you want to race take the Yamaha. It is scary fast. If you want to just cruise or maybe hit a few jumps, take the Honda. If you are willing to pay a little more, the best all around 2 stroke is the KTM 250SX. I had a 125SX and it could beat any 250 from the other companies, racing or jumping.

Take a look at some of the motorcycle mags. Pretty much all of the magazines rate Honda as the best used dirt bike to buy. Their motors are built very well and they withstand the test of time. It may not be the fastest or the lightest but it will be the best value for your money and it will be reliable. I had a 98 CR125 years ago and I crashed the hell out of it multiple times. Never had a problem with it. Ended up selling it for a street bike. KTM is a great bike but it will be out of your budget and the repair bills will be higher than other brands.

yes get a suzuki rm. the wickest powerband on any 2 stroke. with good overall power everywhere. ktm are very nice also. come with some extras from the factory, excell rims , better exahsut etc. but the parts are 1-1/2 to 2 times as mucha as a honda, suzuki, kawa, yamaha.

If your looking for an older one Honda, Kawasaki, or KTM is the way to go. Incidentally I did hear that Honda isnt making anymore two strokes either after this year or next.

i absolutely love my 04 yz250! it is such a fantastic bike, but if you are lookin for somethin older, i would suggest a suzuki or yamaha. i have a 95 rm250 and that thing still will get around a track. just make sure whatever you buy has been well maintained and is not some punk kid's that never was taken care of.

Go with the Honda if you like it. As long as you feel comfortable, that's all that matters.
