Bake a bunch of sugar cookies (make the at least 3 inches in diameter). Buy different icings, sprinkles, candies, etc. Set everything up at a table at their height and allow the kids to decorate their own cookies. It allows them to be creative, have something to be proud of, and keeps them busy for a good half hour.

A lot depends on age of child/children at party.

Get picnic area at local park, rent portable bouncer. Rent a clown or pony. Go to Chuck E. Cheese. Build-a -bear has parties. Have an outing to the zoo and bring your own food.

If children are older many cities have places indoor w/ batting cages, skate park, or paint ball.

Have a theme party like a Mexican Fiesta; Pinata, tacos and nachos, etc.........

Pirate theme w/ treasure hunt, bandannas, skull and cross bones cake, chocolate gold coins, etc............

If kids are younger musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, clothes pin drop, duck duck goose, egg on spoon race (use plastic egg they won't break, or hard boil real eggs)

My personal favourite has got to be treasure quest parties, if you don't have the time to organise and sort yourself depending on where you live there might be a company near by with people that can do it for you, like myself. Children are socialising with each other, getting exercise and using there brain!
Don't hesitate to e-mail if you need some more help.

We used to tie balloons on their ankles with ribbon, and let them run around and try to pop them-the last one with one won. We would call "Time Out" and they would all have to stop-(good for when they're getting too rowdy) and ask a number between 1-15-whoever got closer got a prize. (the prizes were small-candy, gum, cards, etc.) The Time Out game was played throughout the party! A big hit was the "Map Game" indoors or out-depending on the weather-draw treasure maps with enough 'stash' for all, let them find their own prizes. I miss those days!

My kids always loved being chased round the garden by a rabid fox! If you can't get hold of a fox do a treasure hunt, cheap and easy unt the kids love it as long as they can read
