For the most part, yes. It's just a way for them to keep in touch with their friends. There are some creeps on there that ruin it for the rest of the people. But I think your kids will be fine. It's especially helpful after high school when you don't see all the people you were used to seeing all the time.

I think that if you raise your child with a good head on his shoulders it's not that bad. Does your child really know better than to physically meet strangers they found on the internet? If your child has a Myspace profile, and you're concerned, you can also have a Myspace profile so you can see your child's profile. If you can see 90% of what happens on his profile, and your child knows that, they'll be more behaved on there.
You can't get mad at your child for what his friends do on there, either.
As long as you raised your child to be smarter than the internet predators out there, he'll probably be fine. And you know what? If they're older, they'll do what they want to anyway, they just get better at not getting caught doing things they aren't allowed to do.
All my little cousins, sister, step daughter, my friends children, they all do what they want to on the internet. When the cat's away the mice will play. So do your part as a parent and make sure they know how to be safe on the internet. In this day & age it's ridiculous to think you can keep your kids off of certain websites, or ground them from their email. Everyone's got the internet, even the libraries and schools. If they want to bad enough they'll find a way around you.
I think most of Myspace is fairly PG-13. But your child needs to understand that at least 50% of the people on the internet lie about themselves. Who they are, their age, their everything. Teach your child not to be naive. Keeping your child in a protective bubble for too long will make your child naive, and that's dangerous to your child's safety.

Not for kids but teens who are like 17-18 and up but I suggest ones younger then that shouldn't be allowed on the website.

Several of my students, and myself (teacher), claim it is safe; except for Leandra, who says it's not safe to post personal information --- she says kids can get stocked or harassed at school or beyond. This is assuming you do not use the safeguards provided by myspace.com.
Myspace.com also has the following safeguards: profile blocking, user restrictions, and more. Try to encourage your kids to use these. They usually come automatic if the child in question is under 16.
The best way to ensure your son/daughter's safety is to place your computer in an area for the whole family to see. This way, you can monitor content that your kids are viewing online.
Hope this helps and have a great week!

It depends if the parents are monitoring them closely and when I say closely I mean closely. This is a prime site for child preditors. I recently found out yesterday that my niece has a myspace page and she have posted about sexual intercourse and things of that nature. I wouldn't allow my child or teen to have one of these sites because they are open game to any and everyone.

some people on myspace are great, others are not.
Like with most things online you have to use caution..
There are people of all ages on there, but you can have a private profile that only people you allow may look at.
If you are a parent of kid, a good way to make sure they are being "good" on myspace is joining it yourself and adding them to your friends list..
it's a good way to keep them accountable and protect them too

It depends on your level of what is 'safe'.
People of all ages use Myspace. Which means it's a big target for Pedophiles, and rapists to track down young boys and girls.
There's an age limit of 14years of age.
But there are plenty of privacy options.(making your profile blocked to users who are not your friend, last name required to add, etc.)
But it can still cause problems.
Email me if you have more questions.

Mostly, if you activate the strict controls. However, in my experience, myspace is pretty off. A Safer option is shutyourmouth.com ... very kid friendly
