People didn't know what practical application electricity served, so sometimes at parties people would take these little motors and play with it, shocking themselves and others. I'm not sure if that was happening exactly in 1816, but I think it was.

1816 has been called "the year without a summer" because of it's extreme climatic aberrations...
So I guess a little sunshine meant the world to people in 1816... :-)

Most had to work so hard, they didn't need a lot of entertainment.
