Japan culture is great, but their horror movies, cartoons(anime...) or teenage fachion culture or their sex fantasy is so strange and cool at the same time. I watched some cartoons last time and I had a feeling that the writter of cartoon was on LSD/trip. Everything was so strange and scary. I have the same feeling when I watch Japan horror movies.
Japan people: are you really so freaky or you just have so strange and great imagination?

Hey, there's nothing freaky about the Japanese people (although I am a Westerner, I love them). Yeah they have such an amazing culture and I mean their older culture too, not just their modern one. I think they are so popular with the West because Japan is like a totally exotic land but it is still very developed and very civilized. They are also a very proud nation that won't change their ways or be too influenced by the West. So they all right stories that appeal to their people BUT at the same time catching the interest of the West. You know how the West has this great interest in Japan, its the same vice versa. Western culture is seen with great interest to the Japanese probably for the same reason.
They are very much into the "kawaii" thing too. Kawaii means cute in Japanese and it is very much part of the lifestyle.
But it isn't all pop culture there either. They still have a deep respect for their past and the traditions of the past. They still have great musicians, artists, poets and such. Not everything is fantasy and so on but it is part of their culture.
About the sex thing... it's different but also much more relaxed than in the West where sex is seen as a topic to keep quiet about. There, it is just a normal part of life.
But really I cannot describe it properly. I will just say they are very proud people and have the coolest, unique culture around!

Hopefully, you can answer your question by studying why Japanese would never ever accept Christianity no matter what "the West" did against them in the past.
The foundations for the "freaky and strange" Japanese culture was firmly established during the 260-year isolationism during the Edo period. Is there any other nation on this planet that did it as a National Policy for that long period of time?
Japanese are deadly (yes, deadly! despite the two U.S. nuclear bombs dropped on HIroshima and Nagasaki that killed 300,000 innocent ciivilians on the spot) set against "the West" which (from Japanese view) is symbolized by the Christianity that justifies their imperialism into Asia-Pacific, Africa and South America in the name of religion: Christianity.
OK, what are Japanese trying to do with Toyota, Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, Honda, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, and all the world-famous Japanese entertainment industries sponsered by these Gigantic enterprises is to present an alternative "God" to the world (I know how you feel. You can kill me.)
Yes, Japanese animations, cartoons, music, and horror movies and mystery novels (if you can read them) are really "freaky" and "strange" to the eyes of West. All the Japanese intellectuals know that. That is what Japanese artists are doing on purpose.
They are NOT on LSD trip. Its NOT that cheap. They know what they are doing. Yes, they have a "great imagination" as opposed to the Christianity that has been trying to take over Japan for the past 400 years to say the least. Population of Christians in Japan is still less than 1%. Japanese would never ever accept Christianity as a nation (Why? could be discussed in response to another question).
No matter how absurd I may sound, you cannot change the fact that Japanese are deadly set against Christianity. This is the foundation for the "freaky and strange" imagination of the Japanese artists (and politics and ecnomony by the same token).
Let me repeat. You can answer your question if you study why Japan isolated itself from the West for as long as 260 years from the West and still deadly set againt Christianity.

Japan probably has the most interesting, unique, and modern culture. They are very intelligent, and think things over, rather than acting rashly. People in Japan shower before they bathe, so they can conserve bathwater by keeping it clean for the whole family, so everyone can relax. Then, because the water is kept very hot and very clean, they filter it into their washer. Where as many people in the west jump in the tub and soak in their own dead skin cells, and then waste more water to wash their money-wasting clothes. And fashion, look at Harajuku. In Japan the designers use color to intrigue customers. Unlike western designers, who just vainly glue their logo to a bunch of cheap fabric and price it at thousands of dollars. As for anime (and that's pronounced: ah-nee-meh), maybe your just watching the wrong kind. Theirs a huge variety of anime in Japan. Just like theirs a huge variety of films in Hollywood. Japan rocks, and if you aren't willing to embrace the color and vividness of this country, then stay in Suburbia.

That is so random and closed minded question. Your picking a limited market and saying that is the WHOLE culture. I just spent 2 weeks in Japan and can say without a doubt that they are not ALL "weird" and into fantasy stuff. There culture is beautiful and very deep. Take the time to learn about other worlds outside of "pop-culture". Beleive me there is more to the world and countries besides movies and cartoons. What do you think they would say about our movies/cartoons...ie Simpsons, Hous of 1000 corpses, South Park. I think we are equally as "disturbed"

They developed as an island nation and culture. So naturally they are different.
Much like the English in Europe. And us Americans, North and South, who are remote from the other major continents.
