Legally 16.

Interesting one as most people assume it is 14. However for you to be left alone with your younger siblings means your parent/s have left you all in the home alone. The law does not inform us of an age for this so eighteen is the legal time. However again, the law, should there be an event in which your being home alone comes to the attention of the authorities would look at the circumstances, the safety measures in place for you all, and whether or not you had been willfully left alone for too long with appropriate measures. A good question.

14. It's illegal to leave children younger than that unattended in the house. Personally if I had children I don't think I'd leave younger ones in the care of anyone under the age of about 16, but then some 14 year olds can be more mature than other kids a few years older. I used to travel on the bus to work and the 13/14 year olds were far better company and more adult than the sixth formers.

I would say 16 because at that age one is more likely to keep an eye on a youngster say of 5 or 6 than a 13 or 14 year old would.

My first instinct, to answer your question is to say 13 at least. But then several things need to be taken into consideration first.

The maturity of the older child taking care of younger siblings. If the child is able to be responsible enough to lock and unlock the door, fix relatively simple snacks and knows what to do in case of an emergency, than they're probably capable of taking care of younger brothers and sisters.

Theres definite issues of trust involved here and it really depends on when the parent(s) feel they are ready for such a big responsibility.

As far as I am aware it is 14 legally in the UK, though I was looked after by my older brother when he was 12 and I was always okay. Suppose it's at the discretion of the parent depending on the maturity of the older sibling.

when your 16 or older u are classed as an adult, and the 16 year old is then old enough to take responsibility for the other children. i looked into it before i started my baby sitting jobs when i was younger

The age for this is not the age its how the children act in them selves if they are grown up and know how to act grown up and you trust them then its ok there is no certain age for this. my granddaughter is 14 and acts in her 20's and she looks after her younger brother and sister who is 9 and 5. it all depends on you in the end do you trust her/him with their younger brothers and sisters. ive done my NVQ3 in child protection as i work for abused children. if you are really unsure of any of these answers all you have to do for your own peace of mind is phone your local police and they will tell you.
