What would be the point of losing weight by going on a crash diet? Time and again it has been shown that weight lost on extreme diets comes right back, and often you end up weighing more than you did when you started. You will be losing muscle mass (bad) along with fat and then, because less muscle mass means a slower metabolism, it will mean you may be thinner but you'll have a slower metabolism so you'll regain the weight easily.
You didn't gain 20 lbs quickly and you're not going to lose it quickly, that is, if you really want it to be permanently gone. Get walking -- find ways to walk more. I would think that only eating 500 calories a day would be far more noticeable to your family than an increase in exercise. But -- I am concerned that the reason you don't want your family to know is that they don't believe you need to lose 20 lbs, and they may be right. Talk with a doctor about this and find out what a good weight range is for you. You may believe you're fat when everyone around you looks at you and thinks "she's way too thin."

500 calories is not enough calories.
concentrate on the type of calories.
Also, less than 500 calories may make you actually gain weight as a starvation response from your metabolism.
I used to weigh 100 lbs, naturally, without dieting.
It wasn't a healthy weight, I was alway tired, and could not think as clear.
Weight in lbs is not a real goal. Anybody can over diet. The real challenge is can you make your body the perfect weight.
The perfect weight is not in lbs, but what the pounds are fat or muscle.
Muscle weighs more than fat and is definity more beautiful.
So, how much muscle do you need to look good?
Muscle takes calories, so how can you eat a lot of calories that sustain muscle, and lose fat? Eat the right foods?
Ask your family if your doctor has a nutritionist. A personal trainer for co-ordination of nutrition and exercise would help you gain the right kind of weight.
Don't fool yourself, skinny is not fat free.
Only muscle is fat free. that's the real skinny.
Good luck.

Your body needs more calories than that just to funtion properly. That is dangerous.
Also, it will only slow your metabolism down severley, so when you do eat regularly again, your body will be in starvation mode and store as much as it can as fat!! You will wind up losing muscle mass (which burns calories and helps keep your metabolism up).
I know it's hard, but stop what your trying to do!! You could really damage your body!!
Instead try eating HEALTHY and jog/run for a half hour, three times a week.. Your family will be okay with that if you eat normally, and you'll look great!!!

I know you can loose 10 of those pounds just by cutting out High Fructose Corn Syrup it is in every thing from bread to ketchup. People think I am crazy but three of my friends have done it with me and we still eat like crap. Although HFCS is natural in small amounts in plants but the stuff the corporations use is not. HFCS is stored in the fat cells different then table sugar and takes more energy to brake down. The reason these nasty corporation are using HFCS is because it is a corn product so the companies get tax brakes. We have to stop these corporations from putting profit before people.

sounds like you do have a problem. i had an eating disorder and your question raises a lot of red flags!
Secretive weight loss is a red flag! And so is a stravation diet! Starvation diets actually cause more harm to your body than you know. It throws everything out of whack, you body will hold on to the fat because you arent giving yourself enough calories. you will run out of energy and in the end you will damage your metabolic systems. If you do this diet you may cause so much damage that later in life you wont be able to lose weight normally.

you should never only eat 500 calories a day. you need at least 1500 calories to stay at a healthy weight. besides 100 pounds is very skinny and it is not attractive. look at nicole richie she looks a mess. women with more meat on their bones are the ones on the covers of magazines. the days of super skinny models on the cover is over. nowadays models who are below a certain weight can't model.

If you eat only 500 calories per day, your body will automatically go into starvation mode and horde EVERY OUNCE of FAT that it can. You will not lose weight but muscle mass -- thus destroying yourself. You will ruin your metabolism. Your body will begin to eat itself. Your organs will start shutting down. Your hair will turn dull, limp and begin falling out. Your skin and nails will be ruined. Your teeth will start to loosen.
Get yourself to a doctor and ask for help. Hurry!

It probably wouldn't take you long but it is very unsafe to only take in 500 calories a day. I lost 5 pounds in a week by eating way better than I did. Just watch what you eat and have 1,000 calories a day atleast.
