What kind? I have a russian tortoise and they need a large enclosure. Mine is 50 Gallons. They also need UV lights and heat. Mine eats chopped veggies and dark leafy greens every day. You need to look up a care sheet. He wont survive long without the proper environment.

We really need to know the species- different species have wildly different care needs- high humidity or not, for example.
Depending on the species, try these sites:

http://wwwrussiantortoise.org
http://www.sulcata-station.org
http://www.tortoise.org

You place them in your backyard and you check on them every hundred years. Occasionally take out to the park, while you visit your shrink.
