The law In England and Wales states that wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.
If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances). A consumer, i.e. someone not buying in the course of a business, can alternatively request a repair or replacement. If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty).
In other words - unless the jeans have been subject to abuse the retailer must either refund your money or repair or replace the jeans, the choice is yours. Any arguments from the retailer ask to see the manager, if you get no joy there tell him you will visit trading standards and if necessary do so.

Almost a month of wear? Or did you just wear them recently?
Most stores have a time limit on returns, and others don't accept items that have been worn. A lot of places have a retail fraud investigation due to the scams people are always pulling. If you have the reciept and the store will accept it (30days is the limit in some cases) you could get a replacement or store credit.
Without a reciept....you've just got a worn broken pair of jeans that you can't prove you purchased that you will be trying to get a replacement for....
If you used a credit card you can use that if you don't have the register slip, just bring in a statement.

Personally, I'd march those jeans right back into the store and ask to speak to the manager. Explain the whole situation and highlight that you're a regular customer who expected a higher quality product from them. Be reasonable and polite and see what the manager is willing to do for you. Worst comes to worst, you're stuck with them. But at least you didn't skulk off without even trying. Consumers have got to stand up when they feel they've been hosed.

Well if you live in the UK, they would have to replace them or offer you your money back under the Trade Descriptions Act. They are no longer 'fit for their purpose' and 28 days is an unreasonable time.
If you have any problems, sue them on line at the county court. Hopefully it won't come to that. It is the sstore's responsibility NOT the manufacturer.
Hope that helps.

Have a receipt / credit card slip/ check # for that item? Hope so, most department / chain stores give you 30 days to RETURN / EXCHANGE items. Some places give you more than 30 days, it depends on that stores policies.
You can go to their web site or call the store, if you want to know before you go. Hurry, though.

i would bring it back to the store. even if the purchase date has passed the allotted 28 days, I'm sure they will be more than happy to replace or refund it considering they're a large store, they will not put their reputation at stake for a pair of jeans.

If you have the receipt I would take them back. Some place like Walmart will exchange them out it but its easier with it. You have up to 90 days to do so.

I would take them back. Be calm but very insistant that the garment was faulty. At the very least they should give you a discount on a future buy.
