If you are considering a meteorology program, make sure you do your research first. There are lots of good universities out there, however, each meteorology program is different and has various strengths. All the schools that I know of have good forecasting programs. However, here are some schools and some of their strengths (keep in mind, this is a short list).

Penn State - dynamic meteorology (using math to write meteorological equations)

Oklahoma - mesoscale meteorology (smaller-scale storms, especially thunderstorms and tornadoes)

Miami - tropical meteorology (hurricanes and such)

Of course, there are many, many other choices: Texas A&M, University of Wisconsin (Madison), Florida, North Carolina, etc.

Good luck to you!

Mathematical modelling is strong at the University of NSW. Macquarie University has a school of Earth Sciences which is strong in meteorology and climatology. Monash University and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology have close connections with the Bureau of Meteorology and the BoM offers two scholarships a year to Monash. Flinders University in SA also offers a complete course in meteorology.

The BoM conducts its own training of graduates in conjunction with Monash and RMIT with a Diploma in Meteorology as the result.

University of Colorado and Colorado State both have good meteorology programs. In fact Dr William Gray, who set the standard by which hurricanes are forecast, is a professor emeritus from CSU.
