This game is his drug, and as with anyone who is taking drugs, you need to ween them off it slowly.

I suggest restricting him to a few hours of it per week and slowly taking it away.
Help him to find other things that would be of interest to him so he gets more into his schoolwork.

You could even make it a game. One A on a homework assignment=hours to play on runescape.

I think the REAL problem is that you and your husband have set the bar soooooooooooo low for your kid. Think about it...you set the bar at: "being drug free". That's all fine and dandy, but is that the greatest achievement you hope from your kid?
