There is a slight possibility that they could let some go, but, I would think that you should be looking forward to an instant raise.

I actually JUST read an article about this that was beyond fascinating. It talked about the repurcussions of the increase for everyone from the workers to the owners to the customers. It's a great read:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16549922/
The article suggested that companies may have to either cut the hours of existing employees or raise the prices for the end users to cover the additional costs (or take less profit, but what company is going to do that?). It also pointed out that it's not just the minimum wage workers that are affected, but that the employees that now make $7.25 are going to want $8.25 and so on and so on. On the other side, it also shows the struggles that employees living on minimum wage currently experience.
It's a thoroughly interesting article that looks at it from every angle.

It will take over a year for the minimum wage to reach the maximum of $7.25 (that they're planning). It would be phased in over three increases.
Chances are, you're okay with your job. It take a while for businesses to feel the punch of wage. Plus, people need to realize that increased wage expense isn't the only thing affecting businesses. Most took a very large hit with the over-the-top increase in insurance expense during the last five years.
Do a good job and they will want to keep you.
Good luck!!

Well if they are talking about lay off then be concerned. If not you will be fine and you will be making more money and oh yeah if the law does pass minimum wage actually does not go up until 07/01/07. So you still have a while before you get paid that. If you live in Illinois minimum wage goes up to 7.50 an hour.

They cannot terminate you for a wages.. but if you are in a non-union position you could be terminated for any reason they choose. An employer at will can hire/fire at will.

I though minimun wage was $5.50 still?! If they do fire you, I'm sure you wont have a problem getting another job; since it is considered more like a layoff.
