We have direct TV. If I buy a DVR from a store or ebay, DO I have to have Direct TV hook it up for me. Also, if you buy one through Direct TV, they charge $5.99 a month. If I bought one elsewhere outright, do I still get charged the $5.99 monthly for use, or do I just hook it up and use it?

No, you can hook it up yourself but they will still charge the $5.99 a month. But remember, a DVR requires 2 cable lines from your dish to the DVR. Most people only have 1 line to their room. If you have DirecTV do the install it will be free. If the technician needs to wire your house in the attic or crawl space they will charge about $75 an hour to do so. If you're good at wiring you can do this yourself.

I am not completely certain about direct TV, but i know some television providers can do PiP (picture in picture) and others cannot. on one of my networks, it worked until i got the DVR box, which then made it so that i couldn't PiP. Good luck! You may want to contact direct tv for answers
