If you tell a good friend of many years who is flirting with you that you like her a whole lot but you cannot act on those feelings right now, why would she ask if we could share a good friendship? She made hints that she wants to my second closest or closest girl friend in my life. She also wants me to share my deep thoughts and personal struggles as well. Why does she want this after hinting that she does not like me that way?

My close female friend who feels this way feels that way because she likes me but knows that we would never work out as a couple. Not wanting to lose my friendship and respect but still wanting me to be a part of her life, she wants to keep me as a friend.
If I were in a relationship, it would be very tough, because like your friend she flirts with me and kisses me goodbye etc. Also, there are things I wouldn't share with her no matter how close she wanted to be if I were with someone else.
She doesn't want to lose you, but you should make it clear to her that you don't belong to her and have no obligation to stay with her as the two of you aren't and may never be together with the closeness she seems to want without being willing to committ totally to being with you.
