Definitely do NOT email her, not because of the risk of being prosecuted but simply because it's ignorable. If you go up and just start talking you're not and you'll know pretty quickly what she thinks about you, rather than spending the next six hours sweating and continually telling yourself she hasn't read her mail yet!

In today's politicially correctness required in business, I strongly recommend NOT E-MAILING HER...if it does creep her out, it could be grounds to file business or even sexual misconduct claim against you and she will have proof, via an e-mail that can be printed out and likely stored on a server for at least 3 years.

Find a reason to initiate a conversation her; if nothing else, just walk up and introduce yourself and ask her a something about her department or her job; you will be able to tell right away by the way she talks to you and her body language if she is interested in you or not. After a few positive interactions, it would be ok to ask her if she would like to catch lunch together sometime to have a chance to chat more.

I would strongly recommend not asking her out for drinks unless there are is a group of people going out from work afterwards, then it would be acceptable to ask her.

If you word it that way, yes. Don't ask to be friends or say you're shy, just send an email saying "hello" and some small talk.

Just try to come off like you haven't been thinking about it.
