And please, folks, "The Bible Says" is not an answer... we're supposed to have something called religious freedom in this nation where ministers are being jailed for performing gay marriages. Nor is "It's a slippery slope..."... if Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Marilyn Musgrave et al were legitimately concerned about polygamy and men demanding the right to marry their TV sets, they'd pass an amendment saying "marriage shall be limited to two consenting unrelated adults"- period. Just get beyond the silly and irrelevant "ideal family" rhetoric and to the heart of the matter... how would this affect YOU, YOUR family, and YOUR right to practice your religion? I'm curious, because the only thing I can come up with is that might cost hetero couples a couple bucks a year to extend the same access to health care, social security, tax breaks, and legal and financial protection in the event of a tragedy that they currently enjoy to hundreds of thousands of families- many with children.

Hmmm... A couple "The Bible Says" responses. Would Jesus ever do harm or put at risk children just for the sake of appearances, or because of the "sins of the father", as you are doing? And an "eew gay sex is gross" response. Go act like a real man to get over your revulsion... plant yourself on the couch, turn on the game, crack open a bud, and drink 'til you can't hear your wife's nagging voice any more.

It would be POSITIVE, because it would breed a culture of love instead of uneducated, biased hatred! (just look at Lotus' answer!) BTW - I am bi and have 3 kids who are exposed regularly to my gay friends and can you believe they still are OK?
America was built on freedom!

The way you have phrased your question tells every one that you are looking for an answer that will be along the lines of 'he's still my Son/Daughter, and I love them'!
Sorry to disappoint , I'm just an ordinary feller, I have a few beers in the local bar a couple of times a week, the guys in the bar gossip just as much as women do, imagine my child being known as a gay, can you even imagine the humility I would feel? I would hold my head in shame.
I have no respect for whatever the bible says about any subject at all, I wonder why gay folk just cant get it into their heads that the very thought of a sexual act between two same sex people is abhorrent to 'normal' folk? Nothing to do with the bible as far as I am concerned! How would it affect my family? It would break it up altogether, my wife would be very supportive , I would feel physically sick at the very thought.

It wouldn't affect anyone, at least in a physical way. Many people don't like homosexuals, and that's all. They simply hate seeing us becoming a "fact", an official label of a human being. They want us back in the closet, not expressing who we are and what we feel since its not good IN their eyes. I remember watching a documentary and there was a video footage shot in the 50's with a guy shouting at the camera "We wont have black people living in our neighborhood!!!" We live in something similar currently, but in some years it will settle down and everyone will simply shut the f*ck up or they will have to face the law. We are here to stay, and some idiots will either have to face it or go to live in Kazakhstan or so. There is no bible, no protecting their children etc...Its just something they simply don't know, its different and strange, and as narrow minded bigots with redneck instincts they are, they have to instantly hate it instead of trying to know it. I am in a happy long term relationship, and I am struggling to help and advise my straight friends to get into a relationship too, instead of having one night stands all the time...and I am deviant LOL. Sorry my dear friend, there is no logic in hating. Its just being uneducated (not college educated, educated from life and experiences ), narrow minded and sharing the same tribal instincts with monkeys and other animals: the need to only be surrounded by your own "kind" .

Why should it matter if my sister was gay then all the best if she is happy and i hate that gal
i dont see any harm from gays marrying i hate the word gays but obvious it needs using so a few will know what its ignorant referrel is too
Why stand in judgement what the hell does it have to do with other people what your sexuallity is if people have small minds and wish their own flesh and blood dead just because they are selfish then instead of instigating hate they should shut the hell up
Has the economy jeez aint it messed up enough half of these politicians that so called run affairs of the state are so busy sneaking round with rent boys etc
Humans are humans and sadly it seems ignorance still prevails in this world to such an extent that the ignorant people probably think gays want to seduce them well NOOOOOOOO they are attracted to a persons personality not your lack of one
you/r is not to be taken literal by the questioner

It would make the members of my family happy to know that gays are being treated fairly. We would probably have a drink and a celebration. It would make me have faith in society again and believe that our moral conscience is actually growing.

if i or one of my siblings were gay the other siblings would be supportive and my mom would flip out and try to figure out "what went wrong".when gay people are accepted by friends and family it helps them to accept themselves and since that is hard for anyone they become the light most "christians" who oppose being gay claim to be.

It would not have any affect at all, we love one another and accept one another, as long as they are happy, good for them.

because our kids are exposed to gays and we don't like it, that's how it effects everyone else, cause they have to see it. we don't want to see it, you push it on everyone with "it's OK to be gay" and call God a liar. you are in the dark and can not see
