I had a total hysterectomy in Feb. of 2000...
initially I gaines about 23 pounds which I was NOT happy about. But, we "played" with the type and dosage of my HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and I lost the weight; not to mention the night sweats!!! :)
So, talk to your ob/gyne and see which HRT is right for you. I am currently on a synthetic one called Cenestin. Love it!

My mom and my aunt both had them. They gained weight in the beginning because they both had a full hysterectomy and they had to take a lot of different hormones etc. I think it also it depends on body chemistry, age and what meds you are taking. Talk to your OBGYN and he/she can help you figure out a med that may work better with your body.

if you had a total hysterectomy and a salpingectomy, then the reason for your weight gain is in the lack of hormones, since your ovaries are the ones in charge of hormones. If it was just a hysterectomy, there's no reason for your weight gain.
