My answer is most of what has already been stated in the other anwers, and also, that he did truly love his wife. He saw in Angela what he originally fell in love with in Annette Benning. And, in the end, it apparently didn't matter that he did not screw Angela anyway, since he did die with a smile on his face.

Angela SEEMED like a very experienced sex kitten, but it was all an act...a sham. That's why she wanted such details when...forgot her name...Spacey's daughter slept with her boyfriend. When it came time for Angela to actually do the act with Spacey, and she admitted that she was a virgin, Spacey's character came to his senses and realized that she was innocent and young...just like his own daughter, and he couldn't deflower such a young, inexperienced thing as Angela.

She wasn't the wild girl he fantasized about. In the end she was an innocent young girl, and his character felt wrong for using her that way. He thought she might have been a little more experienced and therefor doing him a favor.

Well, he was the protagonist of the movie and if he had done her he would have been a child molester. Most guys have fantasies just like he did, but when it comes down to it, they are smart enough to know that no piece is worth doing time.

I guess he felt guilty about it as he thought she was a far more experienced girl. I think he should have done it anyway. He probably would have if he had known he was going to be shot to death a few hours later.
