Pacific Salmon are endangered for one they are a different breed than the salmon you are buying in the grocery store.

I am not sure why bush lifted the ban, it is a very small oil reserve. There is no economically sound way of shipping it (outside of using Canadian pipelines) It will make no impact on the cost of oil. And it is in violation of a UN sanctioned animal reserve.

"Kempthorne said Alaska state officials as well as some local and native groups had asked that the ban be ended to spur the local fishing-dominated economy."

Take a look around. Fossil fuels are in demand, we are at war, oil is the current currency. Like it or not, we have to deal with the needs of the many before we deal with the needs of the few. Oil drilling was approved here in Florida as well. It concerns me, yes. But what concerns me more is that if we wake up one day to having no fossil fuel, the results will be horribly destructive to the entire nation and in turn, the world. My preference is that we go forward with alternative methods for fuels but for now, we have to do what we must to insure we stay "up and running".

He did it for appearances.

Anyone with half a brain knows that much like ANWR, opening up an area like that to drilling will only yield oil after a long period of time and it will be a drop in the bucket compared to what we import and it will have no effect on oil prices.

The way oil prices are set is very complicated and only stupid people think drilling in Alaska will lower them. Even Bush himself isn't dumb enough to believe that. What it will do is make money for American oil corporations. Which should make any thinking person ask what Bush's real motives are here.

Probably because oil drilling does not harm salmon and whales. However, a lack of oil harms a lot of Americans.

Who cares about stupid endangered animals, most Americans do not. You are in the minority. Americans always look out for #1.

I thought you democrats wanted to reduce our dependance on foreign oil?

If salmon are endangered, why can i buy them in the grocery store?

Better sell it all while the price is high,
seriously, what good does it do the US when it is put out on the world market, and we pay a high price at the pump.
I guess some conservatives, dont know it is put out on the world market, they are in dream land thinking it all stays in the USA
