we want to go to costa rica for our honeymoon in july, but we need some good recommendations for hotels, what part we should stay in, restaurants, etc. We want to stay in a nice hotel with all of the accommodations and are willing to spend a few thousand dollars for about a week. All input is greatly welcomed!!

beware of people advertising on these sites.

you can do a nice trip for that amount of money. we went for exactly one week and here is what i remember about it:

flew in to san jose and took a taxi to Arenal. There are lots of really nice hotels and if you are lucky you see the volcano erupt. we did not get to see this, but enjoyed it. We did a river rafting trip for a day that wasn't anything too exciting, but fun to be outdoors. I think we stayed at Arenal for two nights. There is a hotel that has some nice hot springs that could be fun for honeymooners!

From Arenal we took a shuttle service to the beach. We spent two nights at Samara where the beaches were nice and there were a few good places to eat. I can't recall how nice the hotels were as we stayed at a mid-range hotel. But we did rent a kayak where we got to see a HUGE leatherback sea turtle (one of my highlights). The beaches here are long with lots of room to walk and explore and the town is pretty low key.

From Samara we took a very short taxi in the morning to Playa Carrillo and stayed there for one night. I thought the sand was nicer here, but there wasn't a lot of room on the beach if you want to walk around. We did really like it here.

From Carrillo we took a shuttle back to Alajuela (where the airport is, not San Jose... we never went to San Jose and were told we missed nothing). We really enjoyed one night in Alajuela... we went to a local market, to the volcano Poas (very nice) and to Sarnath to do some great shopping. The next day we jumped on our flight and came back to the USA.

I enjoyed the diversity of the forest and the beach. If I had to do one thing over, I would skip the white water rafting and go on a canopy tour.

You'll have a great time in a week there. Have fun with your planning!

Not sure if you have heard of it, but the lonely planet has a great site to ask specific questions that are country specific. You can find it at lonelyplanet.com under the "thorn tree" thread. I use it a lot to plan my trips.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage! Enjoy the moments...

Puerto Rico is beatiful yet not secure in any respect. basically in January there have been better than 100 murders. very last 12 months, there have been about a million,000. And we are speaking about an island the size of a huge city, purely 100 miles with information from 35 miles. I left the island in 2000. had to come back decrease back, yet then my daughter changed into born in 2004. i do not favor to develop my daughter in that surroundings, so i'm not likely decrease back. Jamaica, is weedheaven. They even help pay the country's debt with information from promoting drugs regularly to Denmark or different drug legal international places. that's a beatiful as PR and a touch safer. human beings are literally not rude to vacationer, they are rude to everybody. that's variety of their element. that's regularly cultural element. The tribes that were taken there have been regularly Zulus, which as you recognize were warrior firstly. they are very closed minded and do not fool round. at the same time as they open, they are your ideal acquaintances. Costa Rica might want to be the spot to relax and performance a somewhat secure honeymoon. I say somewhat because there are continually the guerrillas from adjacent international places that are contained in the corporate of abducting american vacationer. Even then, that's safer than PR and Jamaica.
