Scientists stated for quite a few years that the Solar System included 9 planets. Recently, Pluto was demoted from planet status. The Solar System has 8 planets.
We know of planets in other stellar systems, and there are indeed many more than 9 planets in the galaxy.

Currently there are eight things called "planets" orbiting the Sun. there are also a lot of other objects orbiting the Sun that are technically excluded from the classification but still orbiting the Sun.
In addition, there is indirect evidence of many planets orbiting other stars. It's indirect because at those distances, no dark object will show up visually. Mostly the evidence is star wobble, or dimming and brightening as a planet crosses in front of or behind its star. Your teacher needs to read more.

There are 8 planets AND Pluto which officially lost it's plant status in THIS solar system and some other objects outside Pluto's orbit that no one has classified yet (I think). Then there are hundreds of extra solar planets that have been not directly observed but inferred to exist because of the way they make their stars wobble (very slightly). Probably there are billions in the Milky Way and countless numbers in the universe.

you're making fake assumption by potential of asserting that we are the only life. This has no longer been shown. "What has no longer been shown is invalid!" those sturdy previous scientists additionally stumbled on organisms on the comets that fell in the international. so as that shows we are no longer the only residing creatures interior the universe. those creatures would possibly no longer seem as we do even with the undeniable fact that it proves that life taking place in outer area. At this 2nd we don't have the potential to get far and discover out if there are others accessible. So how will we are saying waste of area as quickly as we haven't seen it! the assumption of a million of 9 planets is purely our life kind can stay throughout the time of this environment observed as Earth! get closer to the sunlight we burn. Get too far from the sunlight we freeze!

Well, there are two answers to your question: 1) the universe is infinite, so what does that tell you?
and 2) if your teacher doesn't know if there are more than nine places in space, then she is a moron who shouldn't be teaching.
But it does help explain why there are so many stupid kids walking around.
----
and to the geniuses saying 8 or 9... read the question again. The guy said SPACE. Not our solar system, SPACE which is infinite. If he meant OUR solar system, hopefully he would have said that.

that in ur question there is no limatation, that when u say space does that mean univers?? then if it is yes then u have to know that the univers is acollection of galaxies, and galaxy is the collection of solar systems that our solar system is one of them and there are 8 planets(objects that revolve around the sun in a fixed paze, known as orbit but since pluto does not have afixed pass it is out of the planets group)... then as far as i know there are more than nine planets couse there are many solar systems..thanks for asking and ur teacher is nice couse no bady is sure about it...

There are now 8 planets in this solar system. The universe is infinite there for, there is the potential for an infinite number of planets.

Well when I was in school there were 9 documented ones, plus many others out there that were very small and unexplored yet. Recently one planet has been considered not to be a plantet anymore for whatever reason, plus there are many others that they are looking into. So, she's right when she says she doesn't know, who really does.
