ok.. i live in ontario canda, here is my situation.
i have been working full time as a receptionst since april of 2003 for the same company. In the summer of last year, i had decided to move to a different city (where my fiance lives) and this was going to happen in Feb of 07. So in Sept of 06 i gave notice to my company of resignment stating the only reason i was leaving was due to moving. (thinking i was doing them a favour by giving such long notice) Then in november of 2006 i find out im pregnant, and my fiance and i decided to stay in the city i am in to be close to my family. (he would commute to his job) I tell my employer and gave them a letter stating i wanted to take back my resignation.
They just tell me TODAY they cant do that, and that i am to be leaving in Feb when i orinially wanted to resign and i am expected to train someone new! I am shocked, because now being pregnant, i cant find a new job, and how can they expect me to train someone to get rid of me.. advice pls!

Oh, baby, I am so sorry that they are being such jerks. I would check with your Human Resource Department, if there is one, in your company, and if all else fails, consult an attorney who specializes in employment law. Good luck to you and take care of yourself and don't stress out, mami, it's all about you and the baby now. God bless you!

That really sucks, although you have to see it from the companies side. If they set an example like that. People would be quiting and trying to come back all the time. Its just not a good situation. They can expect your to train someone because that is your job. I know how hard it is to find a job while you are pregnant. I had to find a new job when I was 6 months along in my first pregnancy, and was lucky to find a great boss and company. You shouldn't be showing yet, and I'm sure that Canada doesn't require you to disclose your pregnancy in the interview process. I would actively look for another job, and if you start to show, and are worried about being discriminated against, buy a baggy suit. Let them think you are fat, and not pregnant. And then if they say something after they hire you say, that you thought they noticed the bump.

Get a new job! I know you're pregnant ... so just don't tell them. Then act like you're all surprised when you start gaining weight and then you tell them! That's if you want to at least have some money saved for when your angel arrives. Otherwise, I'd leave before the date I gave ... if they're not going to at least try to offer you some sort of resolution after you've been a faithful employee for 4 years!!! Let the new girl get there and then bounce out ... screw training!

why should you have to train someone else i would show then maybe the routine but they should have the rest of the training down if they applied for that job and got hired, such as word documents, excel, and other programs , you might ask the labor board, but go through the chain of command or over your boss's head if he has one, i believe if you feel its a lost cause for getting your job back ever than i would tell them you was looking when you found this one and move on, try to get a better job with a better bos thats more understanding.

well this is very hard I lost my job when I got pregnant to it is really hard but I would suggested that if you can stick it out do so because it is really hard to get by without a job. but if it's to hard to stay there go to walmart or a call center they will hire you in your last month of pregnancy. also I would look into pregnancy discrimination laws for you area I don't know how things work in canada but you should be able to find a job or even keep yours depending on what the laws are there.

Honestly think about it, the company KNOWS that you will eventually leave, even if it isnt now thenit will be after teh baby. So find a job now, but be honest when getting teh position so your new compnay understands your situation.

That sucks. But I guess business is business.
You have given more than enough notice.... you can leave at anytime (it's just courteous to wait until the date you gave). That's ridiculus that they think you would train the person taking your job.
They're not willing to help you out... so screw them!!

i'd call a lawyer, especially if they haven't even hired anyone yet. and to the person who responded by saying "they know you're going to leave anyway once the baby is born" that's ridiculous - there are mothers who work, who enjoy working, who have to work.

wow! if they've hired someone else then i can understand them not wanting to give you your position back. but if they haven't then i would talk to the company owner about my situation. if you notified them in november when you found out or in december then I could see them giving you your job back but if you did it this month then no i wouldn't be mad.

they probably don't want to hire you back because you are pregnant and they would have to pay for your medical and maternity leave...and they probably figure you won't come back after the baby is born anyway.... i say train the new person completely wrong....let them deal with it... ha ha
