When you say that you press the reset on the opener, do you mean the reset button on the motor that is part of the opener? If so, the motor is overloaded. That is usually because the door is binding on something.

Or are you talking about a button on the unit that activates it so it will bypass the remote? That is not a reset, just checking to make sure you said the right thing.

Check the tracks to see if there is a problem there. Are the springs okay? One thing you can do is disconnect the opener from the door. Once that is done, open and close the door by hand. Does it move smoothly? It should.

Does it make any noise when it fails? Does it move at all? The difference between a little movement and no movement is critical to understanding the symptoms.

Calling the help line is your best option. #315 sounds like an odd model name. If the unit is a newer model (the last 2 years) it is possible that you're actually looking at the remote's frequency (315mhz) and not the model. Chamberlain (sold by Sears) recently switched to this frequency to help alleviate problems with interference. Also, newer models will not have dip switches for programming the remote (as mentioned above) but, rather, a "learn" button that is located on the back of the motor unit. To program a remote with this type of system you just press the learn button on the motor and then press and hold the remote control button for a couple seconds until you hear a faint click from the motor or see the small light next to the learn button blink - this means the remote was successfully coded. New remotes have to be programmed into your opener so you may have the correct remote but just not have it programmed in properly. Hope this helps.

on a craftsman opener and if your wall button blinks you should have three buttons on your control panel. the button that operates the door, a light switch, and a lock button. Hold down the lock button for about three to five seconds and release light should go solid. Any time that light is blinking it is in lockout mode. No remote control will work, only the wall button. It is so if you go on vacation you can lock it out and not worry about another frequency bleeding into your opener and opening door and you be out of town and not knowing it. The button in the back of operator is for eraseing transmitters and programming transmitters. If you hold it down for 30 seconds it will erase all codes. press and release then hit transmitter you want programmed. the unit should click and opener lights flash showing it is programmed.

There are two "force" adjustments on the back of the 1/2 hp sears garage door opener. one is labeled "up force" the other is labeled "down force". Turn your "up-force" adjustment to the max labeled "high". I had the same problem. In the summer it worked O.K. but in the winter with the wood swelling and all It would trip-out on me and I had to reset it. Now I've noticed in the winter the door does not go up as far as it does in the summer but I'm not going to fool with it, as I can get in and out just fine.

Unplug the unit from line power and then try to reprogram the remote and reset. It may be the internal memory of the unit is corrupted which may mean new remote board time. I'm not too familiar with Sears models but it shouldn't be too expensive to fix.
