He attacked our ally, Kuwait, knowing we would defend them.

Yes he attacked Kuwait and if you do remember there was already a war about that. The outcome was that Saddam Hussein was to be under close UN observation with regular inspections of his military capabilities and weapons.

Why Iraq was invaded now still remains a question to most free thinkers. The mission in Afghanistan to dismantle Al-Quida, you know the ones who did attack America. Was abandoned in it's infancy by America and Left to a Coalition of nations. To free up troops to invade Iraq.

I would like to know how this is going to benefit America's safety in the long run as well.

Psst. America kicked out the UN weapons inspectors mid-investigation when he decided to Invade. It was a huge controversy at the time. Clinton enacted Operation Desert Fox when Saddam Hussein blocked efforts from the UN to bring in weapons inspectors, it was a brief Air strike that did effectively Change his mind.

You are wrong about your assessment that Hussein never attacked the US.

The UN resolution, following the Gulf conflict allowed for a now fly zone that the UN would oversee. The US set out air patrols regularly and were fired upon by Hussein's anti-aircraft batteries.

Each time this happened, the US aircraft destroyed the anti-aircraft battery and radar sights. No US aircraft were ever hit by Saddam's offensive measures, probably because the people operating these units were more concerned about their own exit strategy, then they were about shooting down US aircraft.

Where does your information come from? Is this another bit of mis-information authored by Nancy Pelosi?

No he did not! I have to agree with the answer from "teacher." But I do not think Bush truly believes a democratic Iraq effects U.S. safety; I believe he attached because of personal ego and financial gain for him and friends who make money off wars. Along with that, I don't believe Bush has the mental ability to really comprehend problems, or even his job.

It was not the intention of President Bush to make the US safer by eliminating potential enemies or was it his intention to spread freedom and democracy. These are things that were used in rhetoric or in the case of democracy as a justification to the American people. Clearly Saddam posed no threat to the US and infact unleashing his authoritarian control and invading and occupying Iraq has unleashed powers that once did not have the ability to come to power - increasing the instability in that region - and of course increasing dislike for the US in that region and indeed around the world.

The real intentions were probably to protect US energy supply and hold leverage over the EU and such developing oil dependent nations such as China and India by controlling one of the largest oil reserves in the world whilst increasing profits for oil companies most of which are based in the US. The protection of US citizens from terrorist attacks was not their intention and infact evidence shows that terrorist activities around the world have increased significantly since the invasion.

Saddam lost to us in the first war.

Saddam promised to be open completely for inspections and failed.

Saddam had WMD's and used them against Kurds and Iranians.

Saddam openly supported terrorists.

Saddam hated the USA.

9/11 showed us how weak we were in confronting this threat.

Bush said "never again. What can I do right now to make sure this doesn't happen again?"

Easy answer: Remove a murdering dictator who lost to us, hates America, had Wmd's, used Wmd's, and supports terrorists.

i admire the Arab strategies We(Iraq) elect this (Shatt Al Arab , greater oil costs ,Kuwait or regardless of) .They as a result enter into negotiations wherein they only state -- we are larger and more advantageous so supply us what we call for -- or we are able to invade you. So Iraq invades Kuwait, kidnaps, tortures and rapes Kuwaiti electorate, usually loots the situation, seizes its oil fields and then threatens Saudi Arabia -- and you ask what has that to do with the West or everybody else ? Do you ever ask your self why Arabs/Islam get this manner of undesirable press all over the area

Suddam was a ruthless dictator who refused to comply with the US weapons inspectors. Clinton ignored this but Bush did not. As far as WMD are concerned, if Suddam HAD abided by the restrictions, he would still be alive and in power, so he got waht he got. I believe we owed it to the Troops who died in the first gulf war to make Suddam live up to those UN conditions. And now we owe it to them for finishing what they started back then.

Exactly. I have been saying this to all the blind and bigoted war-mongers for months. I am Christian. I think 9/11 was awful, truly awful. I think Al-Queda need to be destroyed. Permanently.

But ..

The world is LESS secure now that it was before Bush and Blair ran off looking for Weapons Of Mass Destruction that did NOT exist...FACT !

1000 people are murdered every month in Iraq . That is ONE THOUSAND human beings. Is Iraq better off ?

Ordinary law-abiding Muslims are being turned into fundamentalists every day exactly because of the so-called "War on Terror". Is that winning ? My *ss it is.

Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11. NOTHING. The American CIA even stated this not long after 9/11. Bin-Laden hated Saddam as much as he hates you and me.

Executing Saddam has not made one single iota bit of difference to a/ Iraq b/ the world. I don't sleep safer in my bed because he is dead. Do you?

Wake up and smell the coffee before we all get blown up.

Neither did Milosevic. In fact the Serbs saved over 500 US airmen during WW2.

He continually refused to comply with weapons inspections. He lied and said Iraq had no WMDs.
