All the food suggestions above can be helpful for IBS.

Likely, you are just remembering more dreams because you aren't sleeping soundly enough to forget them, as most people do.
In any case, take a look at your dreams and see what patterns are there about the issues that are troubling you. "Bad dreams" often have to do with unresolved emotional issues, usually current ones. Remember the dreams are metaphors, not literal (usually).

They're starting to recommend that people with IBS, or IBS-like symptoms be tested for celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats). A lot of people with celiac were misdiagnosed as having IBS for years. (18 years for me). It takes an average of 11 years for a person with celiac to be diagnosed.

Nightmares are also common with celiac disease. I had the worst nightmares and anxiety dreams before I went gluten-free. It was so bad I would avoid going to sleep until I was so exhausted I could barely stay awake.

Here's a webpage by the National Institutes of Health on celiac -
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/

And another from the Mayo Clinic -

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/celiac-disease/DS00319

If that starts sounding familiar here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac and other gluten intolerances.

You can also be intolerant to other common foods and get IBS-type symptoms, but I'm not sure about the nightmares. Soy, corn, eggs, yeast, dairy, etc. can all cause major issues. You may want to think about keeping a food/symptoms journal and see if you can identify the culprit(s).

I hope you feel better soon.

Are you taking any tablets? Alot of side effects include nightmares. Could it be you have tried some IBS tablets that list this ? Check the leaflets if so and change brands. Peppermint capsules or tea at night for the IBS, or try Twinings cammomile, honey and vanilla tea. I have a good sleep with that. No bad dreams experienced.

Not enough information. See a colon hydrotherapist about your IBS. Sorry but no suggestions for the bad dreams although if you deal with the IBS the dreams may be sorted too. However if you get the IBS srted your dreams may become less upsetting.

About your stomach: One problem could be that you don't eat enough at supper time or you eat to much just before bed. My grandmother use to tell me that if I went to sleep on a full stomach I would have nightmares. Most of the time she was right. I'm not saying this is the case in your situation. Everyone has their own beliefs. Maybe you should think positive things before you go to bed. That way you flush out your negative thoughts about things, whether it be "the thing under the bed...or in the closet" If you think about something that makes you happy just before you go to bed. The chances are you won't have a nightmare.

do not eat for about 5 hours prior to going to bed. If you do eat, try something bland until your stomach can tolerate more foods. When you go to bed, do not think about the gurgling and rumbling or food, find a happy thought. Sounds ridiculous but close your eyes and think of a place from your life when you were most happiest and let yourself float away to that place.
I have done it and it works!

The upsetting dreams are probably as a result of the lack of sleep throught he IBS. Are you on an apprpriate diet for it> If not discuss this with a dietician. Get control of the one and the other should resolve itself.

its all in the food you are eating. try to sort out which foods your eating that upsets your stomach. my husband has given up eating fruit and spicy food and its calmed down. it still flairs up now and then but i think its stress related too.
it will sort out your dreams too when you sort the ibs out. try to relax of a night i.e hot bath no coffee or booze to calm you down and set a time for no eating or drinking. best after 8pm say to yourself no more food or drink.... god luck
