There are many Indians left there. But, thru marriage they have intermixed much of the time.

I met a girl in Spain and I asked her if she was from Spain, and she said no. I asked her if she was from Peru, and she laughed and said yes. She looked like an Indian from that area. They are still there.

There are still plenty of Maya indians in Central America and Mexico. In Mexico most maya's are in the Yucatan peninsula area around Merida-Yucatan, Cancun-Quintana Roo. Unfortunately they make for a poor population but you can see a lot of them working at the hotels in Cancun and surrounding areas. Many of them dont even speak spanish. We encountered some who did not speak spanish and instead had their children translate even though their children as well spoke with a heavy accent. It's really interesting to visit a place like Cancun with so many tourists, but to see the locals and the indians and how the live.
