To be honest I have never seen a HOSE made out of wood!

The same question can be asked of just about any area in the United States. Why do people in earthquake areas build out of wood? It does not always stand up to the stress of an earthquake. Why do people in hurricane areas build out of wood? It does not always stand up to the stress of the hurricane.

You ask a very good question. In the Caribbean where there's tons of hurricanes the houses are constructed out of concrete blocks with metal rods inserted into the blocks for further fortification. The roofs are constructed of the concrete blocks or heavy duty metal screwed down. When a hurricane hits these types of houses there's practically no damage.

I have often wondered why houses are not construct the same way in tornadoThe areas and hurricane areas in the USA.

I wish I had the answer for you.

Maybe the question should be, why are there so many mobile homes in the most tornado-prone parts of the US? e.g. Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas
