To lump all southerners in one group and label them as racist is ignorant. I lived in North Carolina for 12 years, sure there were some racists but most people are just normal every day people. I live in Maryland now and I have encountered just as many racists here as I did in the south.

Confederate Memorial day, I have no problem with that. A lot of people had relatives fight and die in the war. I don't see why it is wrong to remember them.

I think that the current veteran's day should cover all veterans. Despite what you think you know about the civil war, young men and some women left home and fought for what they believed in. History is written by the winners. Despite what the poiticians say you can support the soldier, honor their sacrifice without supporting the war. I am a vet but when I have walked the battlegrounds from the Civil War it is hard to imagine the fear that I know was in those young people's mind. They stayed and fought despite that fear. For that I will honor all veterans.

Southerners don't need to hide their racism. Northerners do, and they often choose to. If a southerner doesn't like a black person, believe me they are more than comfortable saying so.

I agree with a previous poster. These are veterans and they were fighting for a cause. (self governance, not slavery as many people believe). Why on earth would people die for the right of a few rich men to own slaves, esp when slavery was beginning to become economically inefficient anyway?

I have issues with the Klan burning crosses on people's lawns. I don't have issues with people celebrating a regional holiday. Black southerners celebrate juneteenth, which is also a regional holiday (but really shouldn't be actually).

Another excuse to take a jab at minorities, without SEEMING to be racist. And if that ain't it, then at the very least they're celebrating a bunch of people who fought against their own country. I believe we call those "traitors" these days, don't we?

and yes, I'm a southerner, so spare me your insults about being a yankee.
