I have a cell phone with 1000 minutes a month. I don't use them all, but I get extra because I don't want to pay for overages. I also use my cellphone instead of a house phone or work phone, so I use it more than most.
However, when I am going somewhere, I will sometimes turn it on vibrate, or silent. I go with my grandfather on day-long bike rides, and I will refuse to answer it then. I keep it on vibrate, so I know when it is ringing, and tell people that if it is an emergency, to call me a few times and I will answer it.
However, my girlfriend's parents will leave sometimes, and we get upset if we cannot contact them via cellphone. It seems as though our society has made us available to talk to at any time. It used to be we could only be contacted when we were at home, then we got answering machines, and now we can get a cellphone call almost anywhere.
Is it getting out of hand? Are we loosing our privacy? Or is our country just getting more connected?
What's next?

I wouldn't say I'm addicted to it but I feel like I don't have everything with me if I don't have it. I don't really talk on it that much but it is great to know that if I get stranded somewhere or if my car breaks down.. accident, etc., I have the means to get myself help. Honestly, if I didn't want people contacting me, I'd just turn off my cell or something. Otherwise, I think it's really useful to have a cell phone on hand.. in case some kind of emergency does happen. Plus, I drive sooo much that having a cell gives me security when I drive.

Uh, no. I didn't have one for a long time, but then I work from home, so you can just about always get me there. I do have a pre-paid phone now. I bought in in July with 1,500 minutes, and I haven't even come close to using them all yet. Generally speaking, I don't get a lot of incoming calls on it. I use it purely for the convenience of me being able to reach other people when I'm not at home.
Now, when I finally get my hands on an iPhone, that might change, but not for the actual phone functions of it.

No, quite the opposite, I really dislike being reached anywhere at any time. It makes me look antisocial when I never pick up my phone because I am usually always busy with something I don't want to be bothered with. I've even lost friends over it because they get so frustrated that I don't answer my phone. The only good thing about cell phones is that most of them have caller ID so you can see who is calling, and then based on environmental variables, decide whether or when to call them back.
Phone communication of any kind has never been a favorite of mine. If I'm going to talk with you, it has to be face to face or through E-mail or written word.

When I leave the house, many times it is to escape. And when I escape I don't want people following me. I may have my cell phone with me but it is only for an emergency on MY part. It will stay turned off until I choose to come back into the real world.
Believe it or not people did survive prior to the advent of the cell phone.

I dislike using cellphones and only talk to a selected few for longer durations. If I am out on a hike, or just anything fun, I leave behind my cell in my car so I can check on messages once I've completed what I wanted to do...without distractions that is...

I am not addicted to a cell phone. I do not have one. I feel that if it is important to reach me, a message can be left on my recorder at home, or the person can call back.
When I am gone from home----I have an escape from the phone. I like that.

definite, ever when you consider that I were given the recent droid razor i have had topics texting. the secret's on the show are small, so finally end up having to apply swype. I really ought to pay very close interest, when you consider that swype transformations words on me. My telephone isn't smart like they declare lol, the friggin element nonetheless would not understand what words i take advantage of the most.

I actually have a crackberry. It makes a lot of stuff much easier. But voice wise, I go through less than 700 min a month.

I turn mine on silent when appropriate, leave it in the purse/car when at someones house. But yes it is getting out of hand when elementary kids have to have them.
