Alot of situations could put you in a legal or ethical dilemma. It also depends on the location and the culture of the community you are in. I had an ethics class online and one of the situations we responded to was whether the school board should fire a teacher who was a stripper on the side. I'm from the deep south and I said the teacher's conduct was inappropriate. Most of the class disagreed and said that the teachers side line job was no one's business. Most of those with this response were not from my same locality.
I recommend you take a school law class if you have not already and only do what you feel is acceptable within the community where you are teaching.
You asked about personal things. I think grading is an ethical dilemma for me every time I post final grades. If someone lacks one point having an A, do I give it to them because of effort? What about the student athlete who is behind and the coach asks for makeup work? What about a student telling me something in confidence and I am bound by law to report it? These are decisions that you have to make yourself. I advise to follow the law and go with your gut feeling. If you aren't true to yourself, then living with yourself is difficult.

Lots of things can place a teacher in an ethical or legal dilemma. Teachers are taught that they are to be held a moral standard higher than most people in the community. Some of the actions could be: being caught drinking and driving, drugs, using their position for personal gain, harassment of students, discrimination against students, flirting with students, giving a ride to a student, shoplifting, the list goes on and on.

A physics teacher who writes an inflammatory article in an Aryan newspaper about his beliefs in white supremacy. Students were upset and wondered how he could teach Jews and blacks when he held such views. The ethics question is not only about freedom of speech, but ability to perform ones job.

the double standard. is what you teach what you do? is your discipline in your life holding up the integrity in your classroom? before you jump to judgement (eg: parents, co workers etc) has one reflected on your own behaviours? what can you teach that will help to solve an ethical or legal dilemma? how can one be prepared to face a teaching situation that will may/may not arise? everyday a "situation" arises, the question is: how can you handle it?

When you are working with children and their parents do not want to give them the support that they need. They need to have support and guidence. Having to turn in a parent into SS isnt on the top of my fun list.

Teaching someone who has done me wrong.
Put aside biases and think of the good it could do to the person. Who knows, it might change her.
