OK, I just read the first response. Actually, I'm 5'6" and weigh about 125 pounds. My husband actually wants me to gain some weight. He tried the same tactic with me to get me to gain, and I finally got the courage to tell him where to stick it. He actually started respecting me after that. Don't assume that every women who is sick of hearing this crap is fat.

No we are not perfect. There are pressures on women by society that dictates women (in the United States) be thin. Women need to have the weight on them that keeps them healthy. Too much weight on either sex can have serious medical consequences.

It does not help we Americans have one of the worst diets on the planet. McDonald's, KFC, Red Lobster all are nothing more than high calorie places for feeding frenzy's.

Guys don't realize the fashion industry is dominated by gay fashion designers that are actually dressing women in an image of a pre-teen age boy. Once more of them understand this, the Kate Moss, Nichole Richie look will fade as the "IN" look.

Those women look like they are near DEATH!

That is so sad. Maybe they should understand that after pregnancy the weight sometimes has a harder time to come off.
The woman will never again have a virgin body.
Sometimes you return to normal or almost your same weight
other times you don't.
Depends upon whether the person has a thyroid problem as well.
Lots of different reasons for gaining weight.
If a person is depressed they might eat.

As well the woman has to feel good about herself and be accepted. Men out there get a load off and stop being cruel .
Maybe they don't like what is happening but maybe they are the blame.
Is your wife happy with the relationship that may be why she is not miss fashion Model. .
Initially you did not marry a fashion model so give it up and relax
talk and find out what may be bothering her might be a suggestion
Men use that as an excuse, and I am tired of hearing about it too.
So sad they like to look at others but not themselves.
they may not wish to see the person that they are .
Lack of self confidence and pushing blame on another.

I am going to take the guys' side on this one...to a certain extent. I'm no skinny minny, so I'm not speaking from some fat-phobic point of view, but I think a lot of women take it as their sacred right to do whatever the hell they want appearance-wise after marriage. Guys are very visual, and a huge weight gain can be a big problem to marital relations. Women wouldn't think it was okay if men suddenly decided that keeping a good-paying job just wasn't important after a few years of marriage. I think a lot of husbands are really hurt that their wives don't seem to care about looking sexy for them after a certain point, but women are so defensive and sometimes nasty about it that they are looking for a way to address it without getting in the dog house.

The media has a lot to do with it. You see shows like The King of Queens with a fat husband and a thin attractive wife and the men think that this is what their wife should look like even though they are hairy and fat themselves. They see movies where women have had 5 kids yet still have bodies like they are 22 and no kids. We are supposed to starve ourselves to keep up looking like these anorexic models, but it's so unhealthy for our bodies and our minds.

OR:

These people posting questions aren't married, live at home in the basement of their parents house, watch porn all day and just post these questions to irritate us.

Jude, what a well thought out answer that touches both sides of the problem and the problems that can arise from the weight gain.

you know, there is more to a woman's weight than whether or not she is attractive to her husband. often being over-weight can have amajor impact on a woman's life. it can make her sex drive falter as she feels unsexy, it came make her responsibilities around the house fail as she becomes tired and suffers from the aches and pains of carrying too much weight on her frame. it can make her suseptible to an emotional affair if she finds someone on the net that professors to care about her sight unseen. in many cases it can lead to depression which is just hell on a marriage.

that said, many ask the question not becuase they are callous jerks that only want a trophy wife but becuase they want to help their wives get back in shape to improve other areas of life and they don't know how to do so without hurting the wife.

that said these men must also realize that there really is nothing they can do other than to wait for their wives to be ready to lose weight. nothing a husband can say will make a woman want to do the work, she has to do that on her own.

It's because some of us guys see all these thin women on tv and movies and in porn, and we expect our wives to be something that they are not.

My wife and I are both overweight, yes I want her to lose weight, but I'm supportive to her, we try and go out and walk as much as we can. I'm trying to lose weight as well. And we are both supportive of each other. But in no way I am insensitive about it and saying things to her calling her fat. Because I know how she feels having gone through the teasing myself.

So I can see why your getting upset by the questions asking about how guys can get their wives to lose weight.

I know my wife isn't a size 2, but I love her anyway, no matter what she looks like, because I love her for who she is, not what she looks like.

Because that wasn't the way she looked when they got married. No they aren't perfect either. Men are visual and physical. If I were married and my husband wanted me to lose weight, then I would as long as he was encouraging and not mean about it.

Don't be upset. Some men don't know how to approach their wives with a sensitive subject like this. That is why we are here.

I totally agree its annoying but in some cases where the wife has become way over weight its understandable. Some women let themselves go completley after marraiage and the hubby if he has kept himself some what up to par feels its unfair. But if the person was that weight before you married them than you loose the right to complain!

Amen. I too am thin and have never had a weight issue. I do however get sick and tired of hearing men wanting this and that from women. All men seem to be this way. One guy I know wont date a women who doesn't have nice nails yet he bites his and his fingers look nasty. Another one wants a fit nice body yet his isn't. I dont get it. Men think they deserve so much but then expect us to settle for them.
