How do you know if you have what it takes? Would taking a theatre class in college be beneficial in finding out if you are any good? What makes a good actor? Tell me everything you know :)

I would especially like to hear what amateur actors/actresses out there have to say, thank you all for your input.

Stage, or film? Take acting classes at the local community college, then transfer to a school with a good acting department - such as UCLA. Then go out for auditions.

If you think you may be interested, call your local community theatre and ask to talk to one of the directors. Many community theatres offer workshops where people can get their feet wet without committing to weeks of rehearsal and several performances.
If your local theatre doesn't have such a program, chances are that the director you talk to knows where you can get such an experience, or knows how to find out for you.
As you mentioned, a theatre class in college would be beneficial. Such classes often cost more than the workshops, however, so keep that as a reserve option.
To be honest, it's my feeling that if you THINK you are interested, you ARE interested. And being interested is a good sign that you have "What it takes". What makes a good actor? There are as many different answers to that question as there are actors to answer it! Mostly, what makes an actor good is practice. By this, I don't mean rehearsal, although you need that, too. I mean don't assume that once you've landed a role, you're there. The best actors never stop learning.
Most importantly, don't give up too easily. If you don't get a part quickly, it may nothing more than your physical image. Can you imagine Michael J. Fox as Rambo? How about Cedric the Entertainer as Spider-man? Both are very talented actors, but neither would be believable in the roles I've suggested. Directors don't always know what they are looking for in an actor to play a role, but they often can tell by looking that an actor, regardless of how talented, doesn't fit their "vision" of that character.
I say, Go for it, and don't let anyone tlak you out of it!

study actors on tv and in movies. every move they make suggest something..either between themselves, or to the audience. If you have ever seen someone 'sign' to deaf people? It really is not that different. There's blocking, as well as hand gestures, etc.

Sure, take a class in it if you have any interest at all. You have nothing to lose, and it'll certainly help you get a little closer to the answer you seek.
