Why in the world do some sales people ask me when I return an item if I want to exchange or look around for a new item (instead of returning it) after they just helped me for 30 mins in trying to locate a new item for me to exchange but the store didnt have what I wanted??? I just love looking into the eyes of those folks and go "Um... you just helped me with 20 outfits and you know for a fact there is nothing in here for me to exchange ".

I worked in retail while in college and I would never ask that question after helping someone like that. Ugh. Why?!

Ugh, what a pain in the @$$

More often than not, it's probably a habit that they automatically ask that as soon as they begin a return. I know it happens to me all the time - if I'm doing something at work that triggers me to ask something to a patient - even though I just asked it or it was answered before I asked it.

They are probably told that they have to ask that of everyone who is returning something, and they are on "autopilot" - just going through the motions of what they've been trained to do without thinking about whether or not it's really *necessary* in the given situation.
