will hd players ( and blu-ray players ) support non hd dvd's?

from what I read, yes. But **** them both, another format war for which the consumer will pay the price.

Yes, both are backwards compatible to standard DVD.

FYI, LG just announced their dual format (BluRay and HD-DVD) DVD player for $1200 at CES.
