Well that's like sending your kids to play at the park in some unknown city and expecting them to be safe with out supervision. Anything can happen! One how did the mother not know where the 14 year old was going to get into this situation? Or who was calling her on the phone or what the teen was doing on the Internet! Looks like the parents turned a blind eye and now want money because something happened to their kid! I understand that sometimes kids lie(or a lot) but their are precautions to prevent this.
My mother always knew where we were at because she asked, not to say we didn't lie, but she checked up on us! She got up off her butt and did her research to do her best to know what we were doing and if we were where we said and believe me it was hell to pay if she caught us in a lie.
I have a myspace account, I see what goes on there. Would I let my teen have an account, yes, but it would be monitored and I would make sure that my teen knew the danger.
Talking to your kids and gaining their trust and letting them know no matter what that you are there for them and you will do whatever you can to make their world safe has to start when they are little.
Not all action is going to make it a perfect world and nothing will ever happen but at least know what out there and the steps to take to prevent some of it!

because of the fact persons are idiots and choose responsible a factor, be it a internet site, video game, gun, action picture, particularly than a individual. Blaming the factor we could different human beings off the hook. I advise, in case you blame the new child, meaning the mothers and dads did no longer precise enhance their young infants. and in assessment to a new child, myspace does not have emotions to injury.. So that's purely greater hassle-free for all and sundry in contact responsible the factor.

I totally agree... it's called net nanny's and people should have them ( I know I will when my baby turns 5 or 6 ) it's ridiculous that they're suing. The lascivious nature of the U.S. today, people suing McDonalds for their kids getting fat, why, it's completely retarded!
I feel bad for the girl, but her parents should have kept a closer eye on her. Who allows their small child to go and meet someone, regardless of age (if he said he was young)

Parents need to be a part of their child's lives, myspace is no where near at fault for lack of parenting. I agree with you!

It's the parents fault and they need to take responsibilty for their and their daughters own actions, besides you have to be 14 years old and I don't know any 6th graders who are that old.
