That's a tough question to answer...had the TV not been invented, we would not have the entertainment medium that is so prevalent now, not to meniton the numerous industries that are driven around home TV entertainment (Cable/Satellite, TV manufacture, DVD manufacture, VHS manufacture, production companies, etc.).
Socially, we may be more connected with our neighbors and communities with the energy that today is spent at home with the TV being used in other outlets (hopefully for the most part constructive uses).
To be able to say whether life would be better or worse one would have to experience both lifestyles and make the comparison (something that really couldn't happen, as the existence of one choice - say, life without the invention of TV - excludes the other option. If you know one, there is now way to know the other).

Oh, that's a tough one. TV allows information to be broadcast simultaneously to huge numbers of people and has created a kind of global shared experience. Plus, as an art form, there are many shining example of proper high-art that has been created using TV. And, just a means of entertainment, its changed the whole world.
But then, it has to be partly responsible for people not exercising, not eating together as a family and people are slaves to it (especially soap operas and reality shows). It takes on a place that's maybe too important to people than an inanimate object should be.
However, a lot of that is down to personal choice and how you use the TV, or let yourself be used by it. So, weighing it up, I think its bought more advantages than problems for most people. But maybe there should be limits on it like there used to be, no shows after a certain time and not so many channels.

In general, I think life would be better without TV. There are so many pressures and ideas that get forced on society through the television, and tons of subliminal advertising.
I think that people would be more independent thinkers if it weren't for television, and would probably be more productive with their time.
Television isn't all bad- there are some benefits to it, such as some news stories/information and educational programs. Entertainment here and there is fine as well.
However people can tend to abuse televisions and end up neglecting other more important things, such as their families, health, minds, and other responsibilities.
I think the media has too much of an influence on people's behaviors and ideas of the world, so we'd probably be better off without it.

Neither, just different I suppose. My mum said that b4 tv people made own ent and spoke alot more to each other. I guess the up side is that we have a window to the outside world with news current affairs etc. Some programmes are useless and turn us into tv prisoners. Thats my oppinion anyway

i suspect that without TV - people may be more creative and interested in entertaining themselves, read more, socialise more, go to the theatre etc, like they used to before the TV became a 24 hour choice of 600 channels but only ever 12 are worth watching.

You could just as easily ask what if there was no Internet, no cell phones, etc. Once you go down a path, you just don't know what the other path would have led to. TV, Internet, cell phones are here to stay. It's up to us to use them for what they're good for and forgo the abuses.
