my husband and i are now trying to have a baby. although he is going away on a business trip the 3 highest days of ovulation...is it true i can only get pregnant the 3 days i ovulate? this is our first month trying so i know we are jumping the gun and being over excited about this but is it possible we could strike it lucky this month? i ended my period on the jan 8th although we are newly weds so we can't keep our hands off of each other so we have been making love. any ways. i'm thinking we are on the right track to have a little one since sex is what makes it happen but honestly does it ever happen on the first try?

It all depends on how your body is, how good of shape you are in, when you ovulate (disregard what you've heard about ovulating on 14th day.....not many people ovulate that day...it could be 12th, 15th, or even 20th), if your husband's sperm are good, etc.

If you are very regular it can happen quick as long as you have sex periodically say every 3 days. But don't get your hopes up too soon because even if you are regular there can be problems. It can take a healthy couple up to 1 year to conceive so be patient. If it doesn't happen after a year then seek medical help unless you are over 35...if you are over 35 seek help after 6 months of trying.

Sperm can live in the body for about 5 days. You can still get pregnant. Yes it can happen the first time, but don't be discouraged if it doesn't.

There is a book out there called "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler that can help you understand you cycle. There is also Fertility Friend online that can help you chart and you will know if you follow the average ovulate after 14 days or like most of us are off just a bit.

Good luck TTC!

I had my first 3 babies on the first try but I guess I just got lucky and was ovulating at those times. With my 4th that Im pregnant with now It took me 5 months of actually trying really hard to get it on ovulation day. So just dont try too hard. Just relax and hopefully it will happen.

Of course!! My friend has two kids and each was conceived on the first try. Don't have sex every day, but every other day so that the sperm count is higher and your odds go up. Having sex a couple days before you ovulate is good, as it takes a day or so for the sperm to get up to the tubes anyways. Also, you can still get pregnant after ovulation, your egg is still in your uterus, but it's more difficult for the sperm to find it there than in the tubes.

Good luck!

It didn't for me however, when I was in high school my friend had sex 1 time and got pregnant. Obviously she wasnt trying though. According to this pregnancy and all of the conception calculators I used, I had sex 2 days before ovulation and not again since my hubby left for iraq and I got pregnant. good luck and have fun trying!!!!!!!!!!

I can tell you this. Me and my wife, in both of our pregnancies got it in the first try. We starting joking that I can get my wife pregnant by hugging. But seriously, there are so many factors, that you can never really know until you try, you may get lucky the first time around, or it may take a while. The most important thing is to take it as it come.
