I find it ridiculous that people are "hazed" to become members of those ridiculous gangs and that people are "Hazed" as a form of bullying. Was this horrible concept invented in America?

I doubt it was invented in america, but i suppose it had to originate somewhere - it may be the case that it only became common knowledge once it started happening there.

'Hazing' from a psychological point of view could be used to ensure loyalty to the group/cause, though it would not work on everyone.

I don't know where it was "invented," but I've heard not nice stories about British (or really, any European) boarding schools. I'm sure almost every society has some form of it. Being the "new guy" in any kind of group can come with complications.

I very seriously doubt that hazing is happening onbly in the U.S. Common sense and logic should tell you differently. College kids are the same everywhere.

no.

think tribally. Hazing has always existed as a rite of passage. however, it's one thing to "haze" someone in preparation for war, another to "haze" someone because you're a jerk.
