introduce a veggie (lunch or dinner) or friut for a week. This will help determine if the baby has any allergies.

You can try a fruit and veggie at the same time (mixed together).

If she's had no solids before, DO NOT give more than one new thing at a time!! (This way, if there's an allergy, it'll be easier to pinpoint.) Start with cereal - rice, barley, etc. Begin with a tablespoon or two at a time - either morning or night, whichever works better for you. Don't introduce another new food for at least three to five days. Then, if the baby's tolerating the first cereal, try another. Work your way thru all the cereals. Then start with the green veggies - reason being, if you start with fruit or sweet veggies like carrots or sweet potatoes, then introduce the green ones, you're going to have a fight on your hands. Babies like the sweet stuff and will not want the icky green ones. Again, give whatever works best for you. If it's easier to give the veggie at lunchtime instead of dinner, do it that way. You'll eventually work your way up to the cereal in the morning and then the fruit and/or veggies at the other two meals.

You can change the "stages" of the food as the baby shows you she's ready. When she gets a couple of teeth and picks things up on her own, give her some Cheerios or small pieces of banana and let her feed herself.

One thing though - NO honey or nut products until she's over a year old. Again, the allergy thing.

I started my son with rice cereal first at breakfast and dinner and every 5 days i introduced a new cereal. Once I was through the cereals, I moved on to fruits using the same process, giving him cereal and fruit at breakfast and dinner. When it was time to start veggies, I gave him a veggie at lunch, but used the same process introducing new ones every 5 days. Then when it was time to start meats, I introduced them the same way, but at dinner. When I first started though, I read that you should never try a solid when it is time for their bottle. This really helped me because if my son was really hungry, he had no patience for the time it took him to eat cereal. I always fed him cereal about an hour after his first morning bottle and an hour after his bottle around dinner time.

I would give cereal for breakfast, and a veggie for lunch to start. I prefer to start with the green peas first cause they don't seem to like that one very much, so introduce that one so they at least get some taste for it, then I introduce others that taste a bit better. Don't rush into solids fast though, it can upset their stomach. Go slow always start with cereal, and solids after a month of cereal though, so they can get use to cereal, its easier to digest. Solids at 6 months though, don't introduce veggies in their diet till 6 months, cereal and formula from 4 months on.

The babies doctor is the best person to ask this question to. Once you start feeding solids, it does not matter what you feed when. Usually you start with rice cereal for a few weeks and then introduce fruits and veggies.

We always started with Rice Cereal, mixed with watered down apple juice. The rice tends to stop them up, and the juice helps to reverse the effect. When my daughter was young, we were told she could start at 4 months. 3 years later, the new recommendation was 6 months. We actually did cereal at morning and night, until our kids got the hang of it, then introduced veggies. Sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, squash. We didn't add fruits until they really liked the veggies. Start with the stage 1. Or, get one of the baby food mashers (they're white cylinders with a turning stainer thing on top) to make your own baby food. I remember my mom using one, and my friend makes all her own baby food. Remember to only introduce one new food a time, and do that food for a few days to make sure there is no allergy. None of my kids reacted well to carrots. This can be such a fun stage in your child's life! Enjoy!

She should start with baby cereal. Our pediatrician suggested baby cereal for the first month, then suggested that we introduce one food at a time to make sure there were no allergies. Give her one type of food for 2 to 3 days, then introduce another, etc.... Alternate between fruit and vegetables.

It's always best to discuss everything with her pediatrician.

My pediatrician suggested that I start with rice cereal and then introduce a fruit or veggie every two to three days as it may take a full day for an allergic reaction to surface. Both my kids did just fine that way.

Introduce new foods one by one in small amounts, and watch for allergies. DO NOT MIX FRUITS WITH VEGGIES! Usually if your baby tolerates the juice, he/she will tolerate the same fruits or veggies in a pureed form.

Try using cereal for breakfast, a fruit puree with lunch (serve fruit b4 any milk-based formula) and vegetable broth/puree thickened with crackers or cereal for dinner. In the Caribbean, we use cornmeal, oats or green plantains to make porridge for the first meal of the day.

If the baby is younger than one year...no sugar and no salt preferably.

WHEN MY DAUGHTER STARTED THAT, I GAVE HER CEREAL IN THE MORNING AND THEN FOR LUNCH BABY FOOD, AND ALSO FOR DINNER. BUT SHE WOULD EITHER HAVE A VEGGIE OR A FRUIT.
