yes, generally welding is the common method of joining steel to steel... also bolting together, rivets I believe are still used, but not common... There are multiple forms of welding, from regular stick welding either AC or DC, or MIG welding and also TIG welding. Oxy-Acetylene is for light gauge steel, but is more primarliy used for cutting.
