My mother proves to me each year just how little she knows about football. I ask her at the beginning of the season who she would like to see go to the superbowl. Her response is always the same. (Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers) I tell each and every year that there is no way this is possible cause both teams are in the same league and each league gets to send a team to the superbowl. How can I get her to realize and accept what I am saying so as to avoid any embarrassment for either one of us. Who would you like to see in the superbowl this year?

Back when it was just the NFL without AFL teams, the Bears and Packers could play for the championship (even if it wasn't called the Super Bowl).
Have you gotten a chart, divided by conference, and sat down with her? Have you asked her if she really cares? She may just say those teams because of where you live and what was big when she grew up.
Just let it go and focus on who you want to win and how many wings you will eat during the game.
My team (Pittsburgh) is out this year, and so are some of my other favorites (Giants & Jets), So I want it to be the Saints and the Ravens.

There are two groups of teams in the NFL. Each group has it's own season. The best 6 teams in each group play for the spot in the Super Bowl. Each groups sends its best team to the Super Bowl. The Bears and Packers play in the same group.

FYI, It's conferene, not leauge, The Leauge is the combination of both conferences.
Seeing as there are only 4 teams in each conference left, I would pick the New Orlean Saints & The San Diego Chargers.

The best way to handle this is to let her see it and read it fo herself. That way if she can't deal with cold hard proof it's her problem and not yours. Case closed.
