MLK Day is a great day to honor a man who gave up his life trying to bring peace to America and racial equality to all blacks.
Here's a suggestion: When you are off from school that day, listen to his 'I have a Dream' speech. You will be in awe. He was a great inspiration to everyone, not just Blacks. He was even awared the Nobel Peace Prize for that speech. He was an excellent orator and treated everyone equally.
Do you have these qualities?

I think that MLK Day is a wonderful day to pay tribute to a man who did alot for the civil rights movement. His life and legacy are forever part of the history of this country. It's more than just a "paid holiday" for some. It is a day to reflect and really appreciate all that he and so many like him that go unrecognized have done for all people, not just Black people. That is how I feel. How do you feel?

I think it's a great holiday. It's one that honors a man who literally gave his life for the cause and used peaceful means to get his points across.
It's not an exclusive holiday in that white, black, asian...AMERICANS as one can join together to celebrate him and hey, even get a paid vacation.
I homeschool and will certainly be teaching my daughter about MLK and what he did.
ADDED: A person DOES NOT have to be a PRESIDENT to be assassinated. A prominent figure, yes. MLK was prominent indeed. See the definition of assassination below. God bless :)
as·sas·si·nate (-ss-nt)
tr.v. as·sas·si·nat·ed, as·sas·si·nat·ing, as·sas·si·nates
1. To murder (a prominent person) by surprise attack, as for political reasons.
2. To destroy or injure treacherously: assassinate a rival's character.

it is a holiday for me at work so on a selfish level it is a 3 day weekend. MLK is an important figure in our history though and deserves acknowledgement.

It's just another day that government offices aren't open. Besides, have you ever considered that he is the only non-president to have a day named in honor of him? JFK or Reagan don't have a day.
He did great work, but you can't call it assassination because he wasn't a president. Many other people have done other great works, and there's no day for them either.

I don't think of MLK day. It goes by without any acknowledgement from me or others of my acquaintance. Like Rosh Hashana, Boxing Day, Yom Kippur, Michealmas, Ramadan, and a host of other world holidays, it does not effect me so I don't think about it.
