simple
You have to navigate around the london undeground trying to get to Mornington Cresent station.
Various techniques and rules apply.
The techniques include the Hetherington Twist, the Marchmans Reserve and the Old Ladies Shuffle. Although the latter is rarely used because of the dominance of the Rushtons Whimple.
different rule sets exist - The Forbury 12, The Minsterly Reversal and the Orpington Adverse Master are just some examples
Often combinations between strategies are used to take advantage of certain rule anomilies.
For example, if you perform the Covent Garden Spiral Draw after having just used the Epping Undercreep Tightener you are exempt from the normally restrictive Old Whippingtons Halt
The wikipedia link below is a Spoof. The rules are real.
People who say there are no rules are just trying to spoil the intricate gameplay and strategy for you.

Essentially, there are no rules (thats the comedy). They say random tube stations until someone says Mornington Crescent. There may have been rules in the past, as www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mornington_Crescent will tell you. However, they are really random and its just funny to watch. Its sort of a running joke when people try to understand the rules. There you go, your a running joke on ISIHAC.

It depends on whether you're talking about the standard rules or the many variants of the game.
The Bethnal Green twist adds quite a few confusing and complicated double-back turns around Aldgate which makes it difficult to follow; and occasionally they play it according to the Hampstead Bull and Bush rulebook which has obvious ramifications which I won't insult your intelligence by going into!
But, in a nutshell, the rules are that all players must - what's that? - okay, I'm coming, just got to finish writing this answer for - what? okay, then.
Sorry, gotta go.
