i went to my doctor when i found out on the 8th. from an at home pregnancy test i was +. he told me to come back in 2 wks. for an ultrasound. the wierd thing is that i was suppose to start my period the 5th-8th and i felt wierd so i knew something was up and thats why i took it on the 8th. ANYWAYS. how old is the fetus if the first day of my last period was December 8th!? I have no idea how to calculate it and different people are tellingme different ways... im too confused.

I think you are like 4 weeks and maybe 3 or 4 days. You are 1 week pregnant the week you have your period. I know sounds wierd, but that's how it is I believe your due date will be around Sept 12th.
The fetus is 2 weeks behind the pregnancy week your doctor states, because of the whole 1 week pregnant while on period thingy. But when the doctors say you are 12 weeks ect that is not the fetal age. It's just easiest to go by the doctor dates.
There's a book called, "your Pregnancy week by week" that is cool to read it tells how far you are and then also so you know it gives the fetal age too. I suggest this book.

There are 2 ways to date a pregnancy--gestational age which is from your last menstral period and today (1-10) your gestational age would be 4wks 5 days.
The other way to date a pregnancy is fetal age-the age of the fetus from conception. The general way of determining this is to subtract 14 days from gestational age which would be 2wks. 5 days.

Here is my favorite site. It will tell you what week you are in and all that. The baby is actually 2 weeks behind you. They count from your start day of your last period. When you actually conceive you are two weeks pregnant already. Hope this site helps. Congrats.

Count from the first day of your last period. that is houw preg you are so approx. 1 month 1 day.. however the fetus is about 2 weeks old.
