I think many people get married because everyone else does, for excitement, to be the centre of attention for a day, and don't think about what marriage really involves, just daily living together with all its ups and downs, for maybe the next 70 years.

You are quite right - I think 20s are far too young to get married and I wish more people would leave it till their 30s. I did hear a teenage girl on the bus once, bitching to her friends about her mother getting married "at her age" - which turned to be only 38! The girl, who sounded pretty shallow, seemed to think that was too old to love anyone, and certainly far too old to wear a wedding dress etc. Well I think it's far better to marry at 38 when you're a mature adult than at 18 or 21 when you've barely starting living life.

You're only 26, I think you're right not to think about marriage until you're at least 30. And if it never feels right for you, then don't do it, no matter what anyone says.

I concur. Of my 4 friends that have been married, 3 are in process of getting divorced. None lasted beyond 3 years. One is under a year with a kid and its already on the downslope. As a disclaimer though, they all got married young. People get married nowadays without a real foundation. As long as your happy being ina commited relationship without the paper it doesnt really matter.

Hi, well im getting married this year and this is because I love my hubby to be and want to spend the rest of my life with him and make our relationship official. If you are really in love them marriage is not just a piece of paper. People do get married for the wrong reasons but thats there reasons.
Maybe the people who dont want to get married or take a relationship to another level then maybe they dont love each other as most married people do. But i suppose if this is your veiw on marriage then noone is going to change it.

I know what you mean... I remember coming to that point about 2 years ago when it seemed that everyone I knew was getting married. Its just a part of life, and in a few years it will seem like everyone you know is getting divorced. I remember going to 12 weddings in ONE summer, and we havent been to a wedding now in over a year. All we keep hearing about are divorces and feeling a little blessed that we arent getting a divorce and that we are actually happy. Good luck!

I kind of do. I am 26 and have been with my boyfriend for nearly seven years. We have lived together for about five of those years and are very happy so I dont feel any need to change things. However, I think it would be nice to get married before we decide to have kids.

well i'd never get married , iv'e been with my boyfreind for over 7 yrs i'm 25 and have a boy of 5yrs old, i dont believe in god , so dont go church, if its gods house why do you have to pay so much to the vicar, all that money whan all it is really is a piss up, and it seems silly that a piece of paper tells people you love your partner.

Yes indeed! Why everyone needs a piece of paper to prove they love someone is beyond me.

I don't know. I think hetero people in america are dumb. They seem to think its ok that there are other who can't but just as long as they can. Goes to show how much this society has evolved. So yeah, who cares!?
